Dear families,

I hope that you have enjoyed a summer full of rest and relaxation.  With the summer quickly coming to an end, I wanted to send each of you greetings and information about the beginning of school.  As you know, I was appointed principal a little more than two weeks ago, and I am feeling both humbled and confident in leading our school forward in our mission of delivering our community high school graduates who are prepared for what lies ahead.  While there is no doubting the difficult work ahead, I have no doubt that our staff and community will come together to do whatever it takes to support one another and our community.  As we will continue to develop our “new normal” as the battle with Covid continues,  I am very excited about the coming school year as our administrative team has worked hard over the summer to make sure we have planned and implemented a successful plan to return to school safely.

In the coming months, we will work to implement some changes into the daily routine at Woonsocket High School and the Woonsocket Area Career & Technical Center.  One of our main focuses this year will be the words “consistency and accountability” in both academics and behavioral expectations.  I believe that setting and emphasizing high expectations both inside and outside of the classroom will help all of us grow into a more cohesive learning community.  In order to help us achieve this goal, I will hope to provide opportunities for parents and family members to help us grow our learning community outside of our walls.

I look forward to welcoming many new faces to our staff as we have been very busy this summer interviewing and hiring some exciting new educators!  We have reorganized our administrative team, and I am thrilled to announce that Mrs. Lauren Windsor will continue to support our special education department and our special populations as the assistant principal of student support services and Mrs. Karen Barbosa will join our administrative team as the assistant principal at the Career Center.  To support our newly formed 9th grade academy, we will add a new administrative position, as well as restructure the duties of our deans of students.  I hope to announce the hiring of both the assistant principal of the 9th grade academy as well as our other new assistant principal in the coming weeks.  The district has also supported many of our new initiatives by providing additional teaching staff to support our special education, ELL and pathway programs.

It is important to acknowledge the hard work ahead of us this year, but also continue to emphasize what makes Woonsocket such a great place to work and come to school.  We will continue to highlight what we do well, and work together to overcome the challenges we face. Please know that I look forward to increasing and improving our communication and involvement with each of you, and that I look forward to continuing to partner with you in my new role as high school principal.

Weekly family updates will be sent on Sunday evenings.  We will continue to use the school messenger system, our school website, and social media  to communicate with families.  Teachers and staff will utilize google classroom again this year as a communication and educational tool.  Please be on the lookout over the next couple of days for additional back to school information and school forms.  I will also be communicating with students when schedules are finalized and the process of how to request schedule changes.

We cannot wait to welcome the class of 2025 to our school on Wednesday, September 1, and look forward to welcoming back all of our returning students on Thursday, September 2.
